I want to welcome you to this exciting and thought-provoking new site that integrates depth psychology and politics. The inspiration for this blog came out of my deep desire to have a more interesting conversation about how the human psyche interacts within the world.
I believe there are numerous parallels, overlaps, as well as, symbolic, archetypal and imaginal connections that draw upon both Psyche and Politics. To acknowledge the relationship between the two, I believe, is to add to both and to the possibility that bridging the two consciously reflects a larger picture of both. I do not aim to blame either or to end up with some kind of ultimate solution, except for that which can come out of discussion.
How we act and how we think politically and what we hear and how we hear it deeply effects the way we perceive reality and what we think of as “truth”. What we allow into the conversation and how deep we go and are willing to go also effects and reinforces how we think and feel and act in the world.
We can reflect on numerous historical examples of a leader or groups acting without reflection based on some political ideology, i.e., “the Axis of Evil”, “either you are with us or against us”, etc. The greatest danger is to be (unreflectively) locked in of an “all or nothing” “black or white” (interesting racial split), way of thinking without having the capacity and willingness to hold both together in our minds and hearts and the diversity of experiences to inform the process. Suffering both sides of a struggle can in time lead to a whole new and healing outcome, just as insisting on seeing things in black or white or us and them will greatly limit any further understanding. This is true personally and well as politically.
This blog site is a place to reflect upon, engage with and bring together diverse ways of thinking about events that are taking place; how we feel about them, imagine them, experience them as well as how they inform us about ourselves and our collective development or lack thereof. I believe that depth psychology has a tremendous amount to add to the political conversation.
So, here’s to beginning the conversation. Welcome!!
