- “Work” needs to incorporate a broader range of services, like so much of the unpaid work that women do that help to build a society that allows us to be safe, secure and productive. These values need to be reflected in our policies around health care, the military and taxing the wealthy.

Speaking to one aspect of caregiving, a perception and terminology change from “Mother/Housewife” to “Director, Domestic Engineering” for instance could clarify the complexities, responsibilities, paygrade and respect, that if in the workforce (or military), this position would command. To touch upon, the employment requirements for the Director, Domestic Engineering include: extreme goal orientation, multitasking, problem solving, crisis management, oversight and management of multiple individuals in addition to the enormous roles and capabilities required of motherhood (persistent caring, nurturing, <a very specialized, arduous and expansive list…).
